Romantic Bedrooms for Valentine's and Beyond

Color palette ideas and furniture trends that whisper sweet romance.

Love is in the air- as it should be all year long! Get your bedroom ready for Valentine’s day and beyond with our tips for creating a romantic, dreamy bedroom escape. Plush fabrics, layered textures, romantic lighting, and more will get you in the mood for the holiday of love.

Layers of Love

Is there anything more inviting in the bedroom than layers and layers of cozy texture? At its most basic level, a romantic bedroom must have a coordinated bedding set. Soft sheets, layered with a plush comforter, topped by luxurious accent pillows and a throw are at the center of a romantic bedroom. Make your bedroom oasis truly yours by selecting accent pillows to suit your style with themed messages (“Love,” “Mr. & Mrs.,” “His and Hers,” etc. are all great for V-day), varied shapes, and lots of different textures. Play around with adding luxurious velvets, silky satins, and chunky knits, not to mention tassels and a ruffle or two! Top off the look with a throw blanket draped across the end of the bed to increase the romantic, cozy feel.

Consider adding layers in other areas, as well, such as:

  • Plush area rugs or a trendy cowhide over existing flooring

  • Draped curtains over windows

  • An upholstered bed or headboard

Lovely Lighting

Ideas for a romantic bedroom always include lighting. The obvious choice is candles (which we love, too) but don’t forget about other lighting options to increase the romantic aura. If you don’t already have lamps on your bedside tables, now is the time to add some. For a warmer feel, look for lamps with fabric shades and install warm light bulbs, as opposed to daylight or bright white. The same can be done with a floor lamp in a dark corner. Go big by replacing a utilitarian overhead light with a dimmable chandelier to make a statement and go all in on the romantic feel! Or add an electric fireplace for relaxing lighting and literal warmth.

A lamp can help create low lighting that's ideal for a romantic setting.

Delve into Color

While white, grey, and neutral colored bedrooms can tilt into the romantic sphere with a good deal to design savvy, a classically romantic bedroom usually features color and a lot of it. Romantic bedrooms often spout monochromatic color schemes using texture and layers to create interest versus busy patterns and prints. Colors to consider include:

  • Warm peaches, pinks, and oranges (Have you seen Pantone’s 2024 color of the year Peach Fuzz?)

  • Bold purples to create a royal feel

  • Rich greens for a more nature inspired, romantic look

Paint your walls in the color of your choice, then find bedding sets, rugs, and decor in the same color family with pops of white, black, and metallics through your decor.

Other Romantic Bedroom Decorating Ideas

There’s more to decorating a romantic bedroom than color and cozy bedding. Be inspired by the level of decor at your favorite BnB and have fun adorning your updated bedroom in romance. Add wall art to empty expanses, position candles or table top decor on empty surfaces, include additional seating options such as padded storage benches or accent chairs where space allows, or roll up some cozy blankets in a basket. Bring in elements of nature to increase the romantic feel with a plant or two, a vase of flowers, nature print wall art, or a neatly stacked bundle of wood near the fireplace (even if it’s electric).
