Bedroom Design? Dream On
Tips for designing the bedroom of your dreams.

The master bedroom is one of the crown jewels of your home. Not because it is the room where everyone gathers like the living room, or that gets all the demo drama on home improvement shows like the kitchen (have you heard about synthetic marble yet?) but because it is a room that is wholly your own. Make your bedroom your sanctuary for a peaceful night’s sleep.
Oasis Basics
When you’re designing your bedroom, don’t forget the purpose of the space—comfort, storage and relaxation. And while bedroom suites make it less complicated, they aren’t always an option. If you’re building a design piece by piece, keep some quick tips at the front of your mind.
Comfort is paramount. If you don’t like the sharp, cool edges of modern design, don’t go down that road. Keep it simple! Being stylish is great, but if you hate the room that is supposed to help you find your center, no amount of fancy will make you feel comfortable. Pick out a great mattress to start. You won’t regret investing in a high-quality mattress. The quality of your sleep directly affects your health, after all!
Don’t overstuff your bedroom with stuff. You don’t need three accent tables in a small room or an extra chest if you’re short on square footage. Overcrowding makes your daily routines an annoying maze! Don’t start your day frustrated just because some design magazine told you that you needed a four-post bedframe, an antique trunk, a dresser, a lingerie chest, a writing desk and a bureau all in one room.
Speaking of those desks and dressers, think smart about storage. If you need more, get a bedframe with built in drawers under the bed. Use organizers to optimize your closet space, and evaluate what kind of room you need for a dresser or bureau. Have a lot of room? A long dresser is fine. But if you’re tight, go vertical! Get a chest of drawers that is taller than it is wide.
Finally, don’t block your view. Closing up a window by placing furniture, even your bed, in front of it can block sunlight, making the room feel darker and closed-in.
